About Jonathan

Introduction

I am currently lecturing in Technological University Dublin (City Campus). My role involves delivering lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students using advanced teaching techniques to inspire and motivate them for higher level qualifications and then employment.  The experience I gained working in industry offers a wide knowledge base and I actively try to bring this into the classes by discussing how a particular topic might operate in the real world. Taking this approach has sparked some really good discussions and getting a conversation going regarding what students are learning and how this relates to experiences in industry. My experience with programming and development has enabled me to demonstrate the practical implementation of real world problems in lab sessions to aid their understanding on the course theory. The experience I have gained lecturing in NCI and DIT has developed my skills in creating new content to ensure students can learn technical subjects in a structured manner.

Interests

Golf

Golf is one on my main hobbies and I spend most of my spare time either reading golf books or practicing. I am a member of Palmerstown House Estate Golf Club and I play in club competitions every weekend. I love the challenge offered by golf requiring both technical and mental skills required to navigate the course (in the hope of a half decent score).

Kildare GAA

I am a big supporter of Kildare GAA and I hope we can bring Sam to Kildare in the near future.I try to attend as many matches as possible, including the O'Byrne cup, League matches and the Championship. There is no better atmosphere than a Championship match in Croke park on a sunny day, the only thing that can improve on this would be a Kildare win!!

Web Development

My skills include front end development and server side development using C#, Python, ASP.Net, Ruby on Rails, PHP and MVC to create dynamic web applications. I am also proficient with PHP and a variety of CMS. I have a strong interest in design patterns and design principles to create code that can be easily updated and maintained.
